Double Ringer Newsletter, July 2026

President's Pitch Hi everyone, As we approach the 4th of July weekend, the CHPA wants to take a moment to send our thoughts and prayers to all of our members impacted by the active wildfires in Colorado. To those who are dealing with evacuations, poor air quality, or the stress of having fires close to home: please know the group is standing with you. We wish everyone a meaningful holiday and, above all, hope that you and your loved ones stay completely safe. For the month of July there are no scheduled tournaments. But if someone steps up and wants to run one. I’ll be happy to do an email blast and post it on the CHPA event calendar. The Rocky Mountain Open will be the first tournament after the Worlds, August 1st with the Tournament of Champions the following weekend, August 8th. Good luck to the Colorado pitchers who are attending the World Tournament in Wausau WI. We have a great turn out to represent Colorado.   The CHPA is still looking for nominations for the President’...

Double Ringer Newsletter, June 2026

Presidents Pitch Hi All! I hope you are enjoying the start of our summer league and outdoor tournament season.  We have been using the new eshoes scoring program this past month and slowly we are working out some of the glitches. So, thanks to all of you for your patience.  I think this is a great tool! It allows the director to move around and also play.  Games are posted as soon as players approve the score.  Results can be printed immediately.  Scoresheets can be reviewed later to determine consecutive ringers or if a player wants to have a print out of their game. Most of all, NO MORE PRINTED SCORESHEETS !   If you are a tournament director and want to use the new scoring program, contact Jim Kenny with the NHPA and he will send you your login information.  You must be assigned to a tournament(s) by Scott Cline for Jim to give you access.  We have set-up instructions and you can contact Joe Rossi or myself if you have any questions....

Double Ringer Newsletter, April 2026

President’s Pitch Is it spring or did we skip it and go straight to summer!  April Fools, winter is back, maybe,  it depends where you live. My advice is just stick your head out the door and see what’s happening.   It's that time again to prepare for summer leagues.  May is just around the corner and your league director is working on arranging court clean up and the summer pitching schedule.  Have you contacted your Club director yet?  Do you know if all your teammates are returning? Help the league directors out and contact them as soon as possible to see where you can help.   You can also find out what's going on with Colorado Horseshoes by attending the Annual CHPA membership meeting this Saturday April 4th. It will be held at the same location as last year. April 4, 2026 - 10:00AM - 12:00PM Arvada United Methodist Church Meeting room 205 6750 Carr Street Arvada, CO 80004 You are welcome to physically attend or sign up for virtual...

Double Ringer Newsletter, March 2026

Happy March Okay, I guess winter passed us by this year.  It feels like we should start playing outdoors.  Well, maybe not.  Hopefully spring will come in with some snow and rain.  We really could use it!. The CHPA State Singles Fundraiser had a great turn out. Monies raised will go directly to the CHPA State tournaments.   Thanks to all that participated. Our CHPA Members meeting is April 4th.  It will be held at the same location as last year. April 4, 2026 - 10:00AM - 12:00PM (pending confirmation) Arvada United Methodist Church Meeting room 205 6750 Carr Street Arvada, CO 80004 You are welcome to physically attend or sign up for virtual access.  We use google meets and will be administered by Lee Stevenson.  If you are interested please email him to receive an invite. Double Ringer Newsletter, February 2026

President’s Pitch January started our year of pitching to a great start.  The New Years Doubles, Sheila Shepard Open and the President’s Open.  Looks like they had a great time.   February starts with Team Colorado. Currently there are  5 teams competing.  February 20 is the CHPA Fundraiser.  Last year’s fundraiser raised enough money to help with the 4 state events.  Monies were used for food, prizes and other miscellaneous expenses which occur when running a state event. For this tournament, trophies/prizes will be handed out instead of cash.  This is a sanctioned event so it will earn you a credit towards state and the World Tournament.  As I mentioned in last month’s DR I am forming committees to help promote and make our sport more enjoyable.  I have not had anyone volunteer to participate.  We need help! There are a handful of people that run our chapter and if we could get a few more it would help with expanding our spor...

Double Ringer Newsletter, January 2026

President’s Pitch Happy New Year! Another year of pitching shoes are in the books.  Let's look at 2026 to reach new goals and take the steps to making improvements to the game of horseshoes pitching! Improvements are being made at the National level with their website and newsletter improvements.  Another is the NHPA will be implementing a new member initiative program.  I do believe it will be similar to the referral program where they had a drawing for members that referred new members.  The drawing had a value of $350 which was won by 2 members last year.  So read the NHPA newline or digest to keep up with this program.  I will do my best to keep up with the latest news from the NHPA and pass it along to you.  Get the word out to those that don’t have access to the internet.   2025 membership only reached 190 pitchers.  This is the lowest in the past 12 years. 2020 had 169 but that was during COVID.  There were 36 new full...
