Happy Colorado Day!


August 1, 1876, 150 years ago Colorado was officially admitted into the Union as the 38th U.S. State.

100 years after the Declaration of Independence.  That is why we are known as the Centennial State.

Just a bit of history!

  

The CHPA would like to congratulate all who attended the World Tournament in Wausau, WI..

Colorado had a great turn out with many placing in the top 10.  I hope everyone had a great time and 

it's always fun making new contacts and friends from around the country. Next year it’s back in

Kennewick WA, so start planning now to defend your world title. Next year’s tournament will be a one

week event and the number of entries will be limited.  So get your entry in as soon it becomes

available.


The CHPA would like to congratulate Lee Stevenson for receiving the NHPA Achievement Award.  His
work and dedication to the sport of horseshoes is greatly appreciated by the CHPA and NHPA.  Lee is

responsible for the CHPA website, newsletter, tournament flyers, technical support and NHPA rules committee.  


2026 Colorado State Tournament

Singles Championship

August 22 & 23, 2026 *

At Edora Park, Ft Collins, Colorado

Deadline: August 10, 2026

             Entry Fees: Men $40.00 – Women $40.00 – Juniors $10.00

All adult entrants must have participated in the past 12 months, a combination of three(3) events.  It could be tournaments and 1 league (100 shoes or more) 2 weeks prior to the tournament. If your league hasn’t completed the season, just let Sheila know and she'll confirm. Juniors must have participated in at least one (1) tournament or league – same period.

All participants must have a 2026 NHPA FULL membership card.

 

Adult prize fund

1st Place - $100

2nd Place - $75

3rd Place - $50


* Sunday’s play will be determined by the number of entries received.


The Hall of Fame and CHPA awards ceremony will be a luncheon on Saturday August
22.  Play will stop for 1-½ hours to have lunch and present awards.
CHPA will provide the main dish, please bring a side dish to share with all. Donuts, coffee
and juice will be available both days.  Sunday luncheon TBD.

As always we ask for volunteers to help with set up and tear down.  Please arrive early or

stay late. 


Scorekeepers will be paid.

We are wrapping up League play this month.  Hopefully all had a great time and had a lot of

ringers.   League directors please consider sending a team to represent your League in the

2026 CHPA League Championships on Saturday, September 12  in Edgewater Colorado. For

President’s Pitch By Vicki Barham Happy fall everyone! It's that time again to head indoors for the first indoor tournament, Denver Doubles on October 11th.  Please check the CHPA calendar for more information on this event and upcoming events.  FYI, this year’s Winter Freeze and the 2026 New Years tournaments switched to a SINGLES event.  2026 membership renewals and new memberships are being taken now and will be good until December 31, 2026.   Take care of that now before the holiday rush and craziness start.  2026 membership applications are available on the CHPA website and at the Knaub arena or you can visit the NHPA website to renew online. CHPA at the 2024 World Tournament

 The CHPA was represented at the 2024 World Tournament in Tri-Cities, Washington, by 29 members, who competed in 21 preliminary classes (and 2 championship classes). Six competed in the Men's classes. Five competed in the Women's classes. In the Elder Men's classes, 13 participated. There were 3 in the Senior Women's classes and 2 in the Senior Men's classes. CHPA members scored 1st place in two preliminary classes (Lillian Stromberg, Women D and Shirley Smith, Sr Women C) and one championship class (more below). In the preliminary classes, six members took 2nd place:  Carlos Carreras, Burley Taylor, Ken Rodenberg, Joseph Montoya, Dale Stromberg and Don Bristol. Four placed 3rd:  Mel Yockstick, Steve Ruddock, Laurence Smith and Sheila Shepard. Two of the competitors advanced to the championship classes.
