Double Ringer Newsletter, March 2026

 Happy March

Okay, I guess winter passed us by this year.  It feels like we should start playing outdoors.  Well, maybe not.  Hopefully spring will come in with some snow and rain.  We really could use it!.

The CHPA State Singles Fundraiser had a great turn out. Monies raised will go directly to the CHPA State tournaments.   Thanks to all that participated.

Our CHPA Members meeting is April 4th.  It will be held at the same location as last year.

April 4, 2026 - 10:00AM - 12:00PM (pending confirmation)

Arvada United Methodist Church

Meeting room 205

6750 Carr Street

Arvada, CO 80004

You are welcome to physically attend or sign up for virtual access.  We use google meets and will be administered by Lee Stevenson.  If you are interested please email him to receive an invite. I will post an agenda on the CHPA Calendar of events.

We will be discussing our State events, fundraising, promotions and any club issues that need to be addressed. If you would like to speak at the meeting please let me know so I can add you to the agenda.

At the last tournament we started playing around using the NHPA eshoes program.  It's the online version of HSmaster.  Setup is a little challenging but once it's in, it makes running a tournament run smoothly and quick.  By using this method, we will no longer have paper scoresheets.  Every score is recorded on phones.  As soon as the players approve their game, it's posted immediately to that tournament.  Each court will have a phone assigned to it and will have all games that are to be played on it.   Scorekeepers only have to punch the players name and what they scored.  If they need to correct it, there is an “undo last score” button. At the end of the game the players approve the game and the scorekeeper punches in “approved”. The tournament director will have results as soon as the game is over.  No longer checking if there are math errors or missed ringers. The tournament final results aren’t posted to eshoes until the TD verifies it. This will save a lot of time for the tournament director.  With that being said, this is new to all of us, so there will be some issues that will pop up.  We are trying our best to make this work for all of us.

NHPA doesn’t have instructions on how to set up this version of HSmaster available at this time. Joe Rossi has been playing with this by trial and error.  He’s spent many hours scratching his head.  So, if you have questions, direct them to him at this time.  The CHPA wants to thank Joe Rossi and his nephew TJ Olnhausen.  They have been working on setting up Knaub Arena with the computers that we purchased last year.  There is now a dedicated computer and print available to all TDs.  You no longer have to haul your equipment up. If you use the eshoes program, you will be able to access it from that computer.  If you still want to use HSmaster,  the program is on that computer, just copy your data on a flash drive and upload it.    We are leaving it up to each tournament director on how they would like to run their tournament.  If you are interested in running your tournament with eshoes, please contact Jim Kinney, NHPA eShoe director. eshoe@horseshoepitching.com   (816) 738-0868.

He will look at the Colorado tournaments and pull all the events you are assigned to and give you login information.  When running an outdoor tournament, you would need a hotspot or some other option for the internet.  We have a hotspot device at Knaub that can accommodate some internet.  Working on something better.

That’s it for now.  See you at the pits.
