President’s Pitch

Happy New Year!

Another year of pitching shoes are in the books.  Let's look at 2026 to reach new goals and take the steps to making improvements to the game of horseshoes pitching!

Improvements are being made at the National level with their website and newsletter improvements.  Another is the NHPA will be implementing a new member initiative program.  I do believe it will be similar to the referral program where they had a drawing for members that referred new members.  The drawing had a value of $350 which was won by 2 members last year.  So read the NHPA newline or digest to keep up with this program.  I will do my best to keep up with the latest news from the NHPA and pass it along to you.  Get the word out to those that don’t have access to the internet.

2025 membership only reached 190 pitchers.  This is the lowest in the past 12 years. 2020 had 169 but that was during COVID.  There were 36 new full memberships, 3 provisional and 7 trial memberships. So let’s invite that friend or family member to join at one of the above levels.   Trial basis will allow them to play in a league or participate in one (1) tournament with no membership fee.  Or they can pay $10 and play as a provisional member which will allow them to enter one league and/or play in multiple tournaments.  They would have to pay the full membership to be eligible to play in any State or World tournaments. Let’s make a push to increase our membership back to the numbers we have had in the past.  If you have any suggestions please talk with me or one of your CHPA officers.

Starting this month I’ll be forming committees to help me and other officers improve our sport at the State level.  Here are a few to get started.  If you would like to help just let me know.

  1. Membership promotion

  2. Youth program

  3. League promotion

  4. State events sponsorships

The 1st Colorado tournament for 2026 is the New Year’s Doubles on January 10th.  The director has changed to Fred Borra this year.  Please refer to the 2026 pitching schedule available online for you to view or print.

Just a reminder that March 1st is the deadline to submit changes to the CHPA Constitution and By-Laws. They will be reviewed at the April general meeting and all active members are welcomed to come and participate in the meeting.

The 2026 World Tournament early bird registration deadline has been extended to January 31, 2026.  There is a link on the NHPA website for online registration.  Applications are at the Knaub arena and there is a flier on the 2026 pitching schedule.

One last item,  CHPA t-shirts, deadline is on January 15th.  Please email me an order form and you can pay me by Paypal or Venmo.  I heard the tshirts run small so please try on one of the samples I have at the Knaub arena or refer to the size chart on order form.

That’s it for now.  See you at the pits.

Vicki
