Double Ringer Newsletter, November 2025

President’s Pitch By Vicki Barham

Happy Holidays! That’s right! It's that time of year again and they started to play Mariah Carey! So before all the holiday hustle and bustle sets in, the CHPA wants to thank all who work hard to keep our organization running. We really appreciate your work. In November we have 2 tournaments at Knaub Arena. The first one is the Heat It Up tournament on November 1st. No cash prizes will be given, all money will be donated to keep the Knaub Arena heated. We have already received donations and will accept more from those who are unable to attend. All will be recorded and a letter of donation will be sent for your tax return next year. The Jan Knaub Open is up next on November 15th. In December there will be 2 tournaments, Bob Champion Doubles on the 6th and the Winter Freeze, a singles tournament, on the 13th. Visit CHPA website for more information. The 2026 Pitching Schedule is ready and will be available to download or pick one up at Knaub. Remember to renew your membership before the New Year’s Doubles on January 10th, 2026. I had the opportunity to play in the last Horseshoe Tour event for 2025. Christina and I went to the Louisiana bayou area and played for 3 days. Friday was a blind draw. Games were fast and they provided food all 3 days. My partner and I took 3rd place and a bit of money. Saturday and Sunday was the singles event. Whatever your ending ringer % for the day is, that is where you will be placed on Sunday. We played 5 games on Saturday, Joan Elmore was one of them that was fun. Sunday there were only 4 per class. The 1st round was best out of 3 games, the winner moves up to the final round, which will be against the winner of the other pairing. Again, best out of 3. Both of us just missed out of 1st place. 2nd wasn’t bad. Friday they had 82 pitchers. Saturday and Sunday they had 105. Everyone went home with a bit of money. Even the scorekeepers, all pitchers, were responsible for $1 per game. It was fun, 30 shoes and ringers for all 3 days. Just like the world tournament, you can’t cover the expense of the trip with your winnings but you can experience a great time and build new friendships. I plan on doing more of their events in the future. I hope your Thanksgiving table is full of your favorite food and surrounded by your favorite people. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

That’s it for now. See you at the pits.
Vicki
